Behavior Training Behavior is a Language. There are two contributions to our horses behavior, Us and Them. Every time we interact with horses we are either re-training or un-training something. I want to help people better understand their behavior with their horses and what their horses' behavior may be telling them. What does behavior training entail? First is an evaluation of the horse's interaction with the owner and trainer to outline possible issues or concerns. There will be about an hour to go over as many areas as possible to form a structured training program for teaching not only the horse but you as the owner. I’ll go over what your horse's behavior is telling you and how we can approach it. Some behaviors may be due to physical issues or trauma and will need to be evaluated by a vet. Boundaries with our pets is healthy for us and them, in fact it’s important! The next thing is to model​/​demonstrate healthy behaviors and interactions with your horse. Then ask you to rehearse what I’ve shown so we can adjust or make changes as needed. This can sound like an easy and quick fix but that’s not always the case. Some areas may require me to correct a behavior fully before handing over the reins again. This isn’t always a reflection on you, especially if you are not the first owner or are leasing a horse. Also give yourself grace as we aren’t all knowing and as far as I know I’m living life for the first time each day. It’s important to learn from our mistakes and grow from them! My goal here is to help you as a horse owner have a happier reconnected interaction with your horse so your future rides and time together isn’t as stressful as it was.
